They are perfect contrasts to one another. I found myself hoping they would find happiness. Anyone looking for a sweet, touching story, this is it.

Ms. Mathews gently guides her readers through a delightful experience filled with just the right amount of romance, intrigue, and action. I opened the door to a new genre and I'm glad I did. This tale is worth a look. The entertaining characters drew me in completely and I could not wait to see where the next chapter would take me. Evil was present. Yet, those battles were not the focus. If you are in the mood for romance without gratuitous sex or violence, then you are sure to appreciate Twilight’s Kiss. Enjoy the journey!

Another Handsome Hero

The other day, I caught an airing of Sharpe's Gold on History Television and I was reminded of how much I liked the series back in the 90's. I've also looked it up and discovered that another Sharpe movie was made, Sharpe's Challenge and it it aired in late 2006. I'm hoping to catch it on a rerun. :)

Anyway, who can resist Sean Bean? He was great in the role of Sharpe, and equally stunning as Boromir in LOTR. He really can act!

Stay-at-home mother's work worth $138,095 a year
Wed May 2, 3:00 PM ET
NEW YORK (Reuters) - If the typical stay-at-home mother in the United States were paid for her work as a housekeeper, cook and psychologist among other roles, she would earn $138,095 a year, according to research released on Wednesday.


This reflected a 3 percent raise from last year's $134,121, according to Salary.com Inc, Waltham, Massachusetts-based compensation experts.

The 10 jobs listed as comprising a mother's work were housekeeper, cook, day care center teacher, laundry machine operator, van driver, facilities manager, janitor, computer operator, chief executive officer and psychologist, it said.

The typical mother puts in a 92-hour work week, it said, working 40 hours at base pay and 52 hours overtime.

A mother who holds full-time job outside the home would earn an additional $85,939 for the work she does at home, Salary.com.

Last year she would have earned $85,876 for her at-home work, it said.

Salary.com compiled the online responses of 26,000 stay-at-home mothers and 14,000 mothers who also work outside the home.

Bridget Sinclair travels to a Scottish village using her romance novel pseudonym, Bridie Sullivan. However, Bridget has a secret- she is really a faery, who has been trained to kill vampires and other evil creatures. When Bridget first arrives, she meets dark, broody, Sean Sutherland and their attraction is immediate. Sean, too, has a secret- he is cursed by a vampire sorceress to be a vampire until his true love saves him via a prophesy. Sean is a reluctant vampire and has fought off the evil nature of his vampire self for over three hundred years. As the lord of the village and surrounding lands, Sean has been his peoples' protector. Unfortunately, evil forces are planning on converging on Sean's land, which magnifies magic. Will Sean and Bridget be able to stop the evil hordes and will a vampire and a vampire hunter be able to find love?

Ms. Mathews pens an exciting fantasy romance with charming secondary characters and a very stubborn hero and heroine. In fact, Sean and Bridget are so stubborn that, at times, I wanted to knock some sense into them. Sean did come around fairly quickly but Bridget is like a pitbull- she has trouble letting go of an idea. The fact that I wanted to force the characters to see the error of their ways shows how involved I became in their story. Poor Sean, is such a tortured hero, who has so many people depending on him and only love can save him. Bridget is very confused, because her duty is to destroy vampires and she finds herself falling for one. During all this emotional turmoil the evil vampire sorceress sets out to make sure Sean remains cursed and that she becomes even more powerful.

Ms. Mathews produces an epic battle against good and evil and delivers a sigh-inducing ending. I recommend Twilight's Kiss to the reader of fantasy romance.

Bridget has a secret identity. She is a Huntress of Hell and a half-blood faerie with a lot of power and strength. Bridget was sent to Durness Village to act as its protector — a role that had been held by Sean. When they meet, the attraction is apparent. But can a Huntress of Hell and a vampire overcome their differences and fall in love?

An entertaining cast of supporting characters helps to round out the story. Sean’s niece Grace Sutherland is a tough sidekick for Bridget who saves the day on more than one occasion with her bravery and quick thinking. Father Clancy, the parish priest for over forty years, shares Sean’s secret and provides him with spiritual guidance. A friendship between a priest and a vampire may seem unusual, especially considering the typical vampire’s aversion to religious symbols, but Matthews makes it work.

Unlike some vampire romances, the emphasis here is on the good vampire and his positive qualities rather than on the bad guys. Sure, there are plenty of evil vampires to be defeated, but the battles are minor and not particularly violent. The love scenes are also mild, and although Sean and Bridget become intimate, the action happens behind closed doors. Readers looking for a romantic vampire tale without gore and gratuitous violence will appreciate Twilight’s Kiss. It is a sweet faerie-meets-vampire tale for anyone who enjoys dark, brooding heroes and the butt-kicking women who reluctantly fall for them.

Which Precious Gem Are You?

Since I'm born in May this is also my birthstone. :) I'll be interested to know what results everyone else gets. Almost as soon as she returns, she finds herself kidnapped by a towering, handsome “Adonis” of a man who seems all too familiar to her. En route back to England and still incapable of discerning his true identity, Elizabeth finds herself both captivated and held captive by the mysterious Captain Morgan. Unbeknownst to Elizabeth, however, is that while her situation as the kidnapped heiress soon to be forced into marriage is precarious at best, things can only go from bad to worse as her adventures soar to new extremes aboard a ship manned by pirates sailing perilous waters.

With our lead characters, Elizabeth and Mallory, sharing violent and fiery temperaments, it is hard to miss how the story advances forward on their perpetual waves of intense emotion. Elizabeth and Mallory tend to feed off of and base their reactions on how the other flies off the handle, and it’s that combination of being at incessant odds with one another and their obvious attraction that make this one amusing story.

As a reader, I’ve always enjoyed reading about the camaraderie among men. The Captain’s crew was no different. Fully aware of the Captain’s plans to kidnap and marry Elizabeth, the crew continued, almost in a blasé manner, manning the ship. Watching this set of headstrong and intelligent secondary characters sarcastically provoke one another had me outwardly chuckling at the relentless and witty repartee.

I’LL BE YOURS is a boisterously fun, riddled with serendipitous plot twists, swashbuckling adventure on the high seas. Marly Mathews has not disappointed with this entertaining read.

Legacy of The Celtic Brooch Contest at WRP!

Twilight's Kiss on Wild Rose Bestseller List!

Twilight's Kiss is on the bestseller list over at The Wild Rose Press! Woo Hoo! Right now, it's number one in the category of novels! Can anyone say Happy Dancing? LOL

I can't believe that March is almost here...February has just flown by! On March 27, our Yorkie girls will be a year old...my how time has just flown by...it seems like yesterday when they were just tiny puppies. And, they're not very big now, so when they first came home, they were tiny! :)

I'm hard at work writing the sequel to I'll Be Yours, and I have three other books in the works as well...that's me, when I get writing I love to multi-task.

Oh, and I'm also part of a new exciting series at The Wild Rose Press. It's called The Legacy of the Brooch, and I will be writing the thirteenth story in the series, which is also the last story in the series, tentatively called, Journey's End. I'm the author representing the faery rose line in the series, so my story will be filled with romance, magic and more magic!
