Joyfully Reviewed reviews Dragon's Heart!

Here's what Jo from Joyfully Reviewed had to say about Dragon's Heart! Thank you, Jo!
Dragon’s Heart collides the worlds of Earth and Dragonia in a war that can destroy the worlds and everyone within them. Rebels have all but succeeded in conquering Dragonia and now Grania has come to Earth and Dylan to hopefully stop them cold with the spell he has developed. Dylan agreed to having a protector but Grania was a surprise to him, one he rapidly came to want and love. Grania and Dylan have to try and control the Mating Fire while battling the rebels. I found the exchanges and relationship of Dylan and Graina to be funny, heartfelt and sexy while they set the world on fire themselves. I would have liked to learn more about Dragonia, however, I totally saw that the majority of the focus was on Earth. I would seriously like to see Nicholas’ story because he was a major secondary character. Dragon’s Heart has a bit of everything, adventure, danger, dragons, wizards, and a few other secrets that I can’t tell you about. I found it to be a great way to escape my reality for a while.

Another review...

Dragon's Heart was reviewed by Kathy from Kathy's Review Corner!
Here's a tidbit of her review,Dragon's Heart was another fascinating paranormal teeming with interesting characters, unique cultures, villains, heroes, and ultimately love. I enjoyed the banter and romance between the hero and heroine. There are also several characters who I would like to see have future stories. And although I thought the beginning had a bit of information overload, I truly enjoyed this story. I am eager to find out where this author will take her readers next.

Kathy Andrico - KathysReviewCorner.com
Thank you, Kathy!

In other news, I've recently finished off another book, and I'm working on two projects now plus doing edits for a third.
The weather is going crazy here, we've had rain, snow and rain again all in one day. But then, the weather conditions across North America seem to be going nuts this weekend.
I'm off to work on some more writing!
Have a happy Sunday, everyone!

Remembrance Day, 2008

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

In Flanders Fields

John McCrae

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved, and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders Fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders Fields.

Today marks Remembrance Day up here in Canada.
Canada, The Countries of the British Commonwealth and The United States view the poppy as the recognized symbol for their war dead. So, take a moment out of your day today to simply, remember.
Today when the clock strikes 11 am, take a moment of silence to remember.

Haunted Blog....

Photobucket
Let's talk All Hallow's Eve or as most of you know it, Halloween. Today, I'm going to talk about spooky movies. I don't like the gory horror picks, but rather the tamer ones like The Uninvited from 1944.

The Ghost and Mrs. Muir, 1947,

And finally, for a more comedic tone, Abbot and Costello's Hold that Ghost, 1941,

I can't forget some other favorites like High Spirits, The Others, Haunted Mansion, and so many more. What movies do you like to watch at Halloween to get you into that ghostly mood?
And for one last treat, the book trailer below is for my latest release at New Concepts Publishing, Enchanted Beauty! Enchanted Beauty was just named a top pick at PNR reviews for the month of October! Leave me a comment and you'll be entered into the drawing for a free download of Enchanted Beauty!Photobucket

3 More Reviews, Dragon's Heart, Enchanted Beauty and SNOW!

We have snow and lots of it! Looking out the window this morning, I was shocked by the amount of snow that we've gotten for this time of the year. The power had been going on and off all night. Needless to say we've sort of bypassed what we had left of Autumn and forayed straight to an early winter. Sigh. This is really early for us even in my part of South Western Ontario. I guess the trick or treaters will be outfitted for snowy conditions this year unless the weather improves and it all melts by Friday night. I remember as a kid going all bundled up for Halloween. Some Halloween's were warmer and the warmer ones were better costume wise. LOL Some of our trees still have a good amount of leaves so hopefully, the white stuff will melt so we can get back to a what was left of Fall.
First off, Dragon's Heart was given a fantastic review by Justice over at Bitten by Books! Thank you, Justice!!! Here's what she had to say about her reading experience of Dragon's Heart. http://bittenbybooks.com/?p=1289
Grania Burns has given girl power a new face to look up to. She is strong and independent, but her softer side shows through toward her family and her mate (Dylan).
I related most probably to Grania, like most adults we have to decide to live like our parents or by our own values, sometimes these moral values are in constant conflict and to do the right thing you have to go against family. Grania standing up against Draco (her father) and even most of her closest friends to save Earth, made me want to pass out Go Grania buttons.
The language was very British as expected. Most of the battles took place in Great Britain or in Dragonia, most of the characters were thousands of years old so I am glad Marly didn’t use American slang, it would have ruined it for me.
Dragons, witches, wizards, fairies and even a unicorn here and there, this story kept drawing me in, I would make a pact to myself just one more page then I have to stop, seven pages later I was re-compromising that pact again. The action is on going, the love scene dances in front of your eyes, and I adore how they find their mates for life, unfortunately not all unions turn out for the best. If there was to be a sequel I would definitely be the first in line.

PhotobucketPNR has reviewed Enchanted Beauty! Here's what the reviewer, Clover Autry had to say about it! Thank you so much, Clover!!! http://www.paranormalromance.org/reviews/review.php?id=29535
"More than a simple fairy tale"

Enchanted Beauty begins like the familiar tale of Beauty and the Beast. Annabelle goes to the local lord's enchanted castle to free her father from indentured servitude and volunteers to take his place to secure his release. Though not a hairy beast, Malachi, the Lord of Markham and a powerful wizard, bears terrible scars across his face. From there the similarities with the fairy tale diminishes as the story evolves into a more complex and interesting tale.

Annabelle has a malady of her own. A spell gone wrong has left her nearly blind and slowly dying. What's more, she is connected to the enemy wizard who was responsible for causing Malachi's terrible scars. Enchanted Beauty plays up the beast tamed by beauty theme on multiple levels with a scared wizard who must find the beauty within himself, while at the same time the story flips that around with another physically sound, even handsome, wizard who has committed some truly atrocious acts—a beast inside—then further with a beautiful and compassionate Queen who isn't at all what she seems. Even the war they are embroiled in isn't what it seems. Annabelle's unique way of looking at people brings to the surface what is really beautiful and what is truly beastly. Unfortunately getting others to see it just might require her life.

Enchanted Beauty is an enjoyable tale with lots of unexpected twists and turns and layers, but at the very heart is the satisfying love story involving a beautiful woman with the ability to see beyond the outward ugliness of a man with a noble heart.

Kasey from Kasey's View has reviewed Dragon's Heart! Below you'll find what she had to say about it! http://www.kaseysview.blogspot.com/

4 Stars.

A pleasure to read.
Dragons Heart is a sweet and tender love story about two people who find each other at a time when their world as they know it is being torn apart by a violent civil war. Grania a beautiful half/dragon half/human princess is sent to protect the wizard Dylan who's magical spell may hold the key to saving their world. And in the process finds herself unwillingly falling in love with the sometimes annoying but very sexy wizard...

This is a complex and interesting tale about a violent and at the same time very fascinating world. And is sure to appeal to anyone who enjoys stories of magic, wizards, shape shifters and a love to last a lifetime.

Reviewed by Bitten By Books!

Megan at Bitten By Books has reviewed Enchanted Beauty! She had some glowing words for this retake on The Beauty and the Beast fairytale...
This was such a wonderful story. I loved it so much that I had to feed my family cereal for dinner so I could finish reading it. Annabelle was a fragile woman in the beginning until she learned that she more inside of her than she thought. Malachi was a battered hero that you wanted to care for and make better. I enjoyed them together in this book so much. The extra characters were hysterical at times and made a great addition to the story. I have always loved Beauty and the Beast but Marly Mathews made it even better.

Thank you so much, Megan! She gave it four and a half tombstones! Which, I think is very fitting since we are approaching Halloween. ;) Here's the link to the full review! http://bittenbybooks.com/?p=1161

New reviews for Dragon's Heart and Enchanted Beauty!

Margo Arthur at The Romance Studio gave Dragon's Heart a five heart rating, and had this to say about it,
The bond that was forged between them was complemented by the loving way Ms. Mathews wrote the tender moments into the plots. Dramas that besiege these two give them both the strength to face and overcome the strong odds that they where up against, causing them to excel in great power to defeat the enemy. An excellent adventure story filled with magical elements that make this book one to enjoy.

What a charming and sweet story.
Enchanted Beauty by Marly Mathews puts a new spin on the old tale of Beauty and The Beast. With a little bit of magic and along with some truly fascinating characters and a mesmerizing plot she weaves a spell-binding story that keeps you guessing right up until the end...

This is one of those stories that I found almost impossible to put down, which can sometimes make for a very late night...

If you enjoy stories about beautiful damsels in distress, wizards, magic and ever-after then you're sure to love Enchanted Beauty...

Thank you so much Margo and Kasey!

RR@H Reviews gives Do Or Die Top Pick Rose!!!

Mathews creates a great Bogey and Bacall romance for Shylah and Grayson, who despite their seeming ability to do anything and get anywhere at the drop of a hat—she hates how cramped up she gets in her hover car during the 10 minutes it takes to get from a friend's pub in Ireland to her family's mansion in Vermont—they are deathly afraid that the other person will realize how unworthy they are of their love and break off their relationship. They are both so dedicated to the other, but so insecure at the same time. The one thing that makes for an interesting adventure is that several of the characters are not who they are supposed to be. There are impersonators, of both specific people as well as people just trying to hide their identities. And in order to accomplish several things, Grayson needs to inhabit other people's bodies. At one point, I felt like I'd get whiplash looking from character to character, trying to untangle who everybody really was. Many of the secondary characters and their situations are even funnier than those of Grayson (who sounds very British to me) and Shylah, who kicks ass first and asks questions later if she feels like it.

DO OR DIE is a terrific mélange of mystery, intrigue, romance, and betrayal all set in the future which enables people to be anything the author can contrive. Readers who enjoy a little chocolate with their peanut butter—Sci-Fi with romance—will find this couple endearing and cheer them on throughout their exploits.

SRR Review of Enchanted Beauty!!!

Lily at Simply Romance Reviews has reviewed Enchanted Beauty and gave it an outstanding read rating!!! Thank you so much, Lily, I'm so pleased that you loved Enchanted Beauty. I loved writing it as I didn't want to leave the magical kingdom of Thaliana, and it warms my heart to hear that readers and reviewers are having a hard time letting go as well!!!
Photobucket
Here's a bit of what Lily had to say,
This book is a great read. Ms. Mathews has written a story with a historic feel and smoothly flowing fast-paced yet modern dialog. All her characters are well defined with depth of personality, even the magic mirror! They are intelligent, fierce and brave. Ms. Mathews' writing is not overly descriptive about less important things like furniture and scenery but instead gives us a great story with multi-dimensional characters. The book has great twists that kept me wanting to read more and I found myself staying up late into the night to finish. This is a fabulous adult fairytale with plenty of action, romance and of course, the happy ending. Watching Annabelle and Malachi fall in love in Enchanted Beauty is a wonderful journey and makes me look forward to reading more of Ms. Mathews books.

Five Heart Review for Enchanted Beauty at TRS!!!

And the great reviews for Enchanted Beauty keep rolling in. I'm so happy that this story has struck a chord with readers and reviewers! It was a great deal of fun to write as I've always loved the classic fairy tale Beauty and the Beast, and twisting it to put my own stamp on it in Enchanted Beauty was a great writing experience!!!

Here's what Margo at The Romance Studio had to say about Enchanted Beauty,
I have always love reading as a child the story of Beauty and the Beast. In Enchanted Beauty, Ms. Mathews introduces us to Annabelle, a brave, and compassionate woman, who struggled with the knowledge that she could die if no cure was found for the spell that had injured her, causing blindness and a the hastening of her last days on earth. Filled with betrayal and unending action, you will find Enchanted Beauty to be one of Ms. Mathews' truly loving stories to remember.

You can read the full FIVE Heart review by following this link,

Thank you so much, Margo!!!
I'm working on the book trailer for Enchanted Beauty right now, so wish me luck in getting it done over the next day or so. I'm also in deep writing mode, so I'm breaking up my time between two projects. Yes, I'm the multi tasking Queen!!!

Have a great Monday, everyone!!

First Review for Dragon's Heart!!

Hey Everyone!
Last week I received the first review for my fantasy paranormal romance, Dragon's Heart!
Here's a little bit of what Cherokee at Coffee Time Romance had to say about Dragon's Heart! Thank you so much, Cherokee!!

Dragon's Heart is a delightful tale. The banter between Grania and Dylan is sharp, to the point, and carries some cute perks with it. Often times it moved at a great pace, like a tennis match. I fell headlong in love with the sparks of the players, and the developments between them and the secondary characters. The intense battles are life-like, creating an entertaining read, hard to let go in this surreal drama. Marly Mathews is a dynamic author who sketches fantasy and romance brilliantly with a read I found utterly pleasurable.

Two More Days Until Do Or Die Releases!!!

PhotobucketHey Everyone!
I'm excited to announce that Do Or Die will be available in ebook format from The Wild Rose Press in just two days!!! I had such a blast writing Do Or Die as it is non stop action from beginning to end. If you like adventure stories with a big dash of romance this one will cater to your tastes. It's also a futuristic so if you're a fan of Sci-Fi Do Or Die will also be right up your alley. I hope it appeals to a wide range of readers for various reasons.

If you recognize the heroine's name, Shylah, you might be remembering it from reading my author bio. Our one Yorkshire Terrier was named for the Shylah in Do or Die, and I think her spunky tenacious attitude mirrors the Shylah McKay in Do Or Die to a pretty perfect 'T'.

Do Or Die will be available in Paperback on October 10, 2008 from Amazon and B&N!!!! The awesome cover was designed by Rae Monet! Thank you again, Rae!
Here's the blurb:
Do Or Die By Marly Mathews
Futuristic Paranormal Romance
The world has changed. Ten years ago, Earth nearly crumbled beneath the might of an intergalactic War. Their Enemy fought them with their destructive psychokinetic powers. Only a band of extraordinary humans stood in their path. They were known as the Gemini Order. Led by Shylah McKay, they saved Earth from ruination.

Now, Shylah McKay and her kind are being persecuted for the very talents that saved Earth. But Shylah's a mover and a shaker, and with her lover Grayson by her side, she'll go to the ends of the Earth and beyond to fight for her people.

Here's an excerpt from Do Or Die to give you a sneak peek!

Grayson stared at the woman. Didn’t she know
who he was? What he was?
The woman intrigued him. Sparks had flown
between them. She was definitely special—she
looked at him as if he were her savior.
He had to help her. He knew that in an instant.
His eyes locked on hers again. He was in love.
One look—that was it. He glanced at the insignia on
her yellow uniform. She was part of the much-
revered Gemini Order. She had to be one hell of a
powerful woman.
He knelt beside her. For some reason he could
touch her...he didn’t understand that. They had to
be bonded in some way. It could only be a
supernatural bond.
Predestined.
“I’m going to touch you again, Captain.”
“Call me, Shylah. Just, Shylah.”
His heartbeat quickened. Her voice was heaven.
Willing all of his energy to him, he leaned down and
gathered her in his arms. He stood up, cradling her
against his chest.
“Shylah.” Her name rolled off his tongue like
music. His voice was a caress and she relaxed.
“Take me, here.” She pressed her hand against
his chest, and a sudden image entered his mind.
She was a telepath.
He’d known the members of The Gemini Order
were skilled, but not all were telepaths.
He nodded his head. “Your wish is my
command.” He took to the sky. It was a miracle he
had found her. She could be his salvation.
“I feel as if we’ve met before.” She tilted her
head toward him, and he drank in the beauty of her
stunning eyes. They seemed to engulf her entire
face. “You feel familiar.” He sighed. He would never
get enough of listening to her voice.

The Long and Short of It Reviews Enchanted Beauty!!!

PhotobucketPhotobucket
Another review has been posted for Enchanted Beauty! Orange Blossom at The Long and Short of It, had this to say about Enchanted Beauty,
If you’re looking for well-written, romantic fantasy fiction, then this is definitely the story for you. Enchanted Beauty is a retelling of the classic Beauty and the Beast story and with it Marly Matthews has created a fun-filled, touching and romantic tale.
I absolutely loved this book from beginning to end. The writing is top notch, all the characters are wonderfully drawn and the magical world is both entertaining and intriguing. Annabelle and Malachi are wonderful leads—you feel for them, you support their efforts and in the end you want them to succeed in their deeds and be happy. Adding to the enjoyable effect of this book are all the supporting characters which brought the story to life. Each and every one was well-rounded and—even in a magical story as this—felt real.

The world building involved in creating the magical realm of this book was also well done which is important in a fantasy story as this. It came across as thorough and logical. And at the end, all the loose ends were tied up, making it a satisfying and worthy read. I hope to hear about other stories in and around the Enchanted Kingdom of Thaliana from Ms. Matthews. That is a journey I would most definitely like to take once again.

Enchanted Beauty Review!

Photobucket
Enchanted Beauty hasn't been out for long, but already the reviews are coming in! This one is from Rose at Writers and Readers of Distinctive Fiction, who gave it a stays on shelf rating!!!
Here's a portion of what she had to say,
Enchanted Beauty by Marly Mathews has an entirely new twist on the oft-told tale of Beauty and the Beast. The sprightly twists of magic, a handsome and cursed wizard, an evil king and a wicked sorceress queen lend new and exciting plot elements which keep the reader on her/his toes. Using Annabelle as a naïve and untrained sorceress was an interesting play to the old story line, and Malachi and his possessive but sincere character as a partner added the sparks. For the two of them to make life work, they must find out the truth, not only about their monarchs, but about themselves as well. For Malachi, understanding what went down between his cousin and her deplorable lover was only half the battle. To have the strength to let Annabelle go to her father, the Evil King Roland, took a lot of love and trust on his part, and a lot of faith on Annabelle’s newly found love. Having two people so intrinsically different in background and putting them in such peril was an unexpected delight. As the characters worked through their issues of love, trust, anxiety of separation, and finally discovering the truth about themselves and those around them, they and their story encompass a totally unexpected depth. I found Enchanted Beauty to be a wonderful read, one that is interesting, compelling, well written, and delightfully innovative. For those who like faerie tale romances with a twist, Enchanted Beauty is the story for you. This is one I can highly recommend for your keeper shelf.

Twilight's Kiss get 5 Hearts from The Romance Studio!

PhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucket
Dee Dailey from The Romance Studio gave Twilight's Kiss a FIVE HEART REVIEW! I'm over the moon about this fantastic review! Here's a few snippets of what she had to say about Twilight's Kiss,
Marly Mathews has written a humorous, suspenseful tale of villagers turned vampire slayers. They all know of Lord Sean’s affliction, love him still. Ms. Mathews does a great job building her characters. Bridget, Sean, Grace, Father Clancy, Mary, Rupert, Iris all come alive under her pen.
and...
This is a fun tale with some suspenseful twists from beginning to end. Ms. Mathews writes some of the best dialogue and scenarios around. Sean is such a powerful but loveable guy I just couldn’t help hoping with the rest of the village that Bridget would just say the words and save them both from heartache. It’s a great book with a nice little twist at the end to make it even better.

Thank you so much Dee for your kind words! I'm always happy when a reviewer loves my writing!

Doorway to the Stars..

Photobucket
Crystal from Crystal's Book Reviews has reviewed Doorway to the Stars! Here's a snippet of what she had to say,
Doorway to the stars is a futuristic novella with a touch of romance and spice. The characters were very realistic and the story overall was very well written. Ms. Matthew’s has a knack for writing in this genre I look forward to reading more of her books. 4 Hearts

Happy Fourth of July!

Photobucket

Happy 4th of July to all of my American readers and friends! Have a wonderful holiday, don't forget to enjoy the food and the fireworks! ;)
We have quite a few Americans in our neck of the woods this week, which is a really good thing. My sister was out yesterday and she'd just parked her car looked to the vehicle parked beside her and saw a woman reading Twilight's Kiss!!! Small world, especially since the woman was up from the States! So, that news definitely made my day! My sister tells me she looked thoroughly engrossed in the story! :)

The Last Legion

Last night, I took some away time from writing my next fabulous book *giggle* and I watched The Last Legion starring Colin Firth, Ben Kingsley and Thomas Sangster. Surprisingly enough, it was really good! I didn't know what to make of it when reading up the write up since it really doesn't do the movie justice. But if you haven't checked it out yet, do so when you can! If you like action movies with a little bit of romance, this one will please you! And of course if you're a Colin Firth fan, this one really should be on your to be watched list. :)

I found the following trailer on You Tube.

Happy Thursday!

I'm dashing in quickly to say I'm still alive. LOL Seriously, I've just finished one book, and now I'm off to finish the second book! I'm having a blast and I've even had to shift into different sub-genre gears as the book that I just finished was a straight historical set during the late regency, and now I'm writing a futuristic set in a very distant future.
I'll leave you all with this video from You Tube. :)

New review for The Witch and the Wolf from The Long and Short of It!

Photobucket
I personally really enjoy historical fiction and this story pleased me. It takes place during the French Revolution and thereafter. The writing is such that I felt transported right into events and felt the fear and passion that was prevalent then. Transportation by horse and carriage, elegant clothes worn by elegant ladies, fawning gentlemen, the constant intrigues that were carried on behind the royal scene can all be enjoyed by the reader. The language and speech patterns here and there tends to resemble modern day language but on the whole language is authentic as well. I enjoyed the reminder of what had been taking place in the courts of England and France as they struggled with their hatred of each other.

The romance that Arabella De Maurier and Christopher Wyndham tried so hard to deny accelerates through the story building to a delicious crescendo at the end as true love prevails. Christopher refuses to give up on his love as Arabella twists and turns looking for a way to solve her problems. As hard as he tries Wyndham cannot stop loving her. It makes you wish for a man just like him for yourself.

I eagerly followed the ups and downs of the love the two main characters have for each other. Their relationship is stormy, but so touching in places it's sure to bring a smile to your face as it did mine. You'll want to pay close attention while you read so you don’t miss any of the juicy parts. It makes for a very fascinating time. There are many other threads of people’s lives and events woven throughout the main love story that also make it interesting to follow. All that passion and action and history woven together makes this a book you really should read!
